This Christmas, the Fiji Police Force is urging the public to remain vigilant and safety-conscious during the festive season, particularly while attending end-of-year parties, social gatherings, and doing last-minute Christmas shopping.

With increased public movement and activity during this period, Police are reminding people to take extra precautions to protect themselves, their families, and their property, a police public release said.

Police officers conducting routine operations across the country have been actively raising awareness about personal safety and security.

These efforts are aimed at ensuring that the festive season remains a time of joy rather than one marked by preventable incidents.

Police stress that simple measures such as being alert in crowded places, LTA and Fiji Police Force joint enforcement operations are underway across the country.

In response to the heightened activity during the Christmas period, the Fiji Police Force has intensified night-time operations, with a particular focus on youth loitering and vehicle checks.

These operations form part of broader efforts to deter crime and maintain public order during the festive season.

According to a police public statement, night operations teams have been conducting stop-and-search checks on vehicles while also engaging with young people found loitering in public areas after hours.

Police explained that these measures are necessary as the festive season often sees an increase in opportunistic crimes, including theft, assault, and alcohol related incidents. With more people out shopping, attending parties, and travelling at night, the risk of such incidents rises.

The intensified operations are therefore intended to act as a deterrent and to reassure the public that police presence remains strong.

Police thanked members of the public in a statement, particularly young people and their families, for their co-operation during these operations.

They acknowledged that community support plays a vital role in maintaining safety and security, especially during busy periods such as Christmas.

Police officers on the ground have been engaging with youths, advising them to return home safely, and
encouraging responsible behaviour rather than taking punitive action.

Police also emphasised that their approach during these operations is preventative rather than punitive.

The goal is to reduce risk, prevent crime before it occurs, and work closely with communities to promote a safe environment for everyone. By engaging with youths and community members, police hope to build trust while reinforcing the importance of personal responsibility and community cooperation.

The Fiji Police Force is also calling on the public to report any suspicious behaviour.

People are encouraged to contact Crimestoppers on 919 or the National Command Centre on 9905296 if they notice suspicious movements involving people or vehicles.

Police stress that timely reporting can help prevent crimes and ensure a quicker response.

This Christmas, police continue to remind everyone to celebrate responsibly, look out for one another, and prioritise safety.

Through increased patrols, community engagement, and public cooperation, the Fiji Police Force aims to ensure a safe, peaceful, and enjoyable festive season for all.
