Dear friends, May the peace of Christ be with you this Christmas season.

Christmas celebrates God’s entering into the world because human beings have failed to order their lives according to God’s plan.

The story of fall of Adam and Eve to Satan’s temptation symbolically illustrates human beings’ brokenness and sinfulness. Humans have disobeyed God.

God is patient with us. He does not give up on us. God plans to rescue human beings from destruction and chaos.

He wants to free us from things that destroys life; from drugs, sickness, domestic and gender-based violence, child abuse, injustices, economic exploitation, and poverty.

He chooses people of faith like Abraham and Sarah, Moses, David, and Mary to create a new people. He sent prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel to teach us. Finally, God plans through Jesus come to earth himself, to be born of a woman, and lead us back to God.

When we look at our lives, we realise that for many peoples Christmas joy and peace is still a distant away.

Jesus’ life was under threat from the day he was born. King Herod planned on killing him. Joseph and Mary had to flee to Egypt and lived as refugees for about three years.

Like Jesus, many peoples’ lives are under threat today due to wars, persecution, relocation, poverty, domestic violence, and economic exploitation.

In his ministry, Jesus reached out to suffering and vulnerable peoples, he defended weak peoples’ dignity, he spoke against corrupt leaders, he challenged the religious leaders, and called for radical change.

The civil and religious leaders threatened his life again. They planned on getting rid of him and finally killed him.

Jesus died because of the way he lived, standing for the weak and poor, fighting injustices, and calling for change. However, his life, teachings, values, suffering and death, became a new shoot of life, empowering many peoples to continue his mission in the world.

This Christmas I invite all peoples to reflect on the real meaning of Christmas, that is the coming of Christ the Messiah. Christ brings peace, joy and justice.

He invites us to join him bring peace and joy to others. Be a Christmas gift to someone this Christmas.

Come Lord Jesus.
