The Fiji men’s hockey team faced tough competition at the FIH HockeyM5s World Cup in Muscat, Oman.
Unfortunately, they were unable to secure a spot in the quarterfinals after losing their first two pool matches.
In their opening match, Fiji suffered a 14-3 defeat against the United States, with a hat-trick from Alberto Montilla and Sekayi Charasika, a team ranked 24th in outdoor 11s hockey, while Fiji is ranked 62nd.
Head coach Shaun Corrie said they didn’t have a good start in their first match against US.
“So, it is important to stick with the processes, subbing processes which affected everything down the line for us we need to work on that.”
Corrie said. Despite the tough competition, Fiji managed to score three goals through Adrian Smith, Leevan Dutta, and George Ravatu.
Their second match saw them facing the host team, Oman, resulting in an 8-3 loss for Fiji.
The team’s performance placed them at the bottom of Pool D after the initial two rounds.
Oman’s 8-3 victory over Fiji placed them at the top of the group, while Fiji’s two losses sealed their fate of being eliminated from quarter-final contention.
