Surgeries at the new state-of-the-art operating theatre at the Ba Hospital will be recorded. Aspen Medical — Health Care (Fiji) Pte Ltd chief operations officer Barry Herberts said camera equipment were installed within the theatres to record each procedure in real time.

“One of the other thing out of these theatres is we’ve got the ability to record the surgical procedures so we can actually streamline and do and do real time training,” he said.

“So what we’ve got in these theatres is a camera that can actually zoom right into the surgical field whereby we can record each procedure. Then we can teach junior doctors or other doctors in other regions, different techniques, what to look for, how to act and what they can expect to deal with in the surgical field.

“It’s all quite cutting-edge technology in Fiji and we’re quite proud of the fact that we’ve been able to do this in Ba.”

He added surgical procedures conducted at the hospital would be the first to be carried with the Ba District.

“Obviously the reason everyone’s here for is because we’re doing our first surgical procedures at Ba which is a completely new clinical service to this region.

“The old Ba Mission Hospital had a surgical theatre there but that was primarily for midwifery and obstetric cases whereas now we’ve got two general theatres out of Ba Hospital that we can utilise and take the load off Lautoka and also we can do our own surgical procedures up here.”
