HEAD coach John McKee is expected to ring changes to the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians team for the second Pacific Nations Cup clash against Canada this Saturday.
With players vying for positions in the final team for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, McKee said it was very important for the players to play well in the remaining PNC games to ensure they put themselves in the best position for the final selection.
According to McKee, the training load for the players was heavier to ensure that they are fit enough for the RWC.
“I can’t talk about what other teams are doing but for us the PNC is important and the RWC is more important,” he said.
“So we are training a little bit heavier than normally for a Test match cycle to make sure that our players are fit enough when they hit the RWC.
“There is a lot of competition for places in the team and to settle on what the final make-up of the team will be,” he said.
“It is very important for the players to play well in the two remaining Pacific Nations Cup games to ensure that they put themselves in the best position for selection.
“Probably we will make a few changes for the match this week. There are a few players who have been training back in Fiji and will come into contention as they haven’t had much game time yet or no game time at all. So I expect to get those players in this week.”
