A PROUD moment for 24-year-old Keresi Maya as he is selected to represent the national Vodafone Fiji Bati in the upcoming Pacific Championships.
Hailing from Vidawa Village in Bouma, Taveuni, with maternal links to Naselesele Village, Maya’s journey to this point has been characterised by relentless hard work and unwavering determination.
“I like to thank the almighty for giving me this opportunity, I have really worked hard through the past months, and to hearing my name being selected is something special for me,” said Maya.
Maya expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities it afforded him.
“I was part of the Fiji Bati extended squad last year, and I learned a lot of things, especially playing locally and getting a chance to train with experience players was a great opportunity in my career.”
The news of being chosen for the team came as a pleasant shock to Maya.
“When coach Wise called me on the phone and said I have made the squad, i didn’t believe it, I was shocked, but all thanks to the Almighty for giving me the strength and the talent to play league, and I’m really grateful.
Aware of the responsibilities and expectations that come with representing his country, Maya is committed to maintaining discipline and following the guidance of the coaching staff.
Fiji Bati will meet Cook Islands Aitu on the 18th of this month at the Santos National Football Stadium.
