FORMER Fiji Visitors Bureau regional director for Australia and North America Ilisapeci Matatolu is the new Tourism Fiji board chairperson.
She replaces outgoing chairperson Andre Viljoen who’s also resigned as Fiji Airways managing director and CEO.
Announcing her appointment, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Viliame Gavoka says Ms Matatolu brings to the board a wealth of experience in destination marketing.
Ms Matatolu is a graduate of James Cook University, where she obtained a tourism degree. She holds a Master of Arts degree from USP, where she lectured in tourism and hospitality.
Mr Gavoka said this was a time of opportunity for the Fijian tourism sector.
“We are at a critical juncture in our recovery and growth.
“Ms Matatolu’s leadership will help steer Tourism Fiji in a direction that is bold, innovative and responsive to global trends and market demands,” he said.
Mr Gavoka also paid tribute to Mr Viljoen who was instrumental in guiding the tourism industry through the COVID-19 pandemic.
