MAKING better use of opportunities will be a key focus as the team prepares for the Vancouver 7s in Canada, says Fiji Airways men’s 7s captain Jerry Matana.

Matana was speaking after Fiji’s narrow 19-21 loss to South Africa in the men’s cup final of the Perth 7s at HBF Park on Sunday night.

“Give the glory to the Man above even though we didn’t get the win,” Matana said.

“I guess it’s about opportunities and making good use of the opportunities we have.”

Despite falling short in the final, Matana said there were valuable lessons to take from the Perth tournament and the previous leg.

Looking ahead to Vancouver, Matana said the side would take time to reflect and address areas that need improvement.

“We will go back and reflect on the two tournaments and the mistakes we have to improve before the next one,” he said.

The team will now shift focus to the Vancouver 7s as the Osea Kolinisau-coached side continue its 7s series campaign.

The Vancouver 7s will be held from March 7-8.
