The voting process for the municipal elections planned to be held in September this year, will be largely similar to that of the general election, according to the Fijian Elections Office.
Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa said while there would be some differences, the overall procedure would remain familiar to voters.
“In terms of the voting process, it is quite similar,” Ms Mataiciwa said.
“We have the same usual process of requiring our voters to have their voter card.
“On that note, I’m also encouraging our Local Government voters that under the law, we are also required to have a Local Government register of voters.
“So, we will be registering the eligible voters for the municipal elections.
“That will be rolled out in the months to come.
“But all this will be briefed to our stakeholders in the month of March.”
Ms Mataiciwa emphasised that the core voting procedures would not significantly change.
“There’s not much difference to it, rather, the only difference would be the ballot paper.
“For the general election, we have the numbers associated to the ballot papers, but for our Local Government elections, we have the name of the candidate and their party.”
She said further details on voter registration and election preparations would be communicated during stakeholder briefings scheduled for next month.
