Fiji Water Flying Fijians forward Viliame Mata is confident in his team’s ability to secure their second straight win as they prepare to face the Australian Wallabies in their upcoming Test on Sunday.
Mata, who was part of the team that defeated Australia at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, believes nothing is impossible and is determined to come out victorious once again.
Mata acknowledges that facing Australia will be a physical challenge, but he believes that his team is well-prepared to meet this challenge head-on.
He emphasises the importance of bringing their physicality to the game and points out that the same group of players who achieved success against Australia in the World Cup are still together.
“It’s always going to be a physical match against Australia, so we need to bring our physicality to this game,” said Mata.
Reflecting on their previous victory over Australia, Mata highlights the positive impact it had on the team and stresses the significance of replicating that success on Australian soil.
“Back to the win again Australia in the last World Cup, the same boys are still here.
“We have mentioned to the team, how great it feels just to win over Australia, and to get another one at their home ground will be special for us.”
He encourages young players to focus on their individual contributions both on and off the field.
“I think we have a good group of back rows going in for this test match, probably everyone has played in the international level, and they have done well and my advice for them is to do your own work and to your basic stuffs on and off the field.”
Mata is confident that his team can secure another win against Australia, drawing inspiration from their past success.
“With the win against Australia in the World Cup, I believe we can do it again, it’s possible to do it again, and to get a win in Australia will be massive for the whole team.”
The Flying Fijians will face the Wallabies at 3.30pm this Sunday at the Newcastle International Sports Centre in Australia.
