Vanua Levu based honey producers Sotutu Agricultural Development Proprietary Ltd will have locally produced honey sold in major supermarkets across the country and in the Pacific region.

This, after the Bua company partnered with manufacturing giants Punja and Sons Pte Ltd to launch Pacific Taste Pure Honey, cementing its presence in the local and regional markets.

During the launch in Lautoka yesterday, company managing director Rajesh Punja said the launch was a testament of the company’s longstanding commitment to communities and the people.

He said after listening to the challenges of small farm operations in rural Vanua Levu from farm director doctor Viliame Sotutu, they wanted to provide market access to the honey producers. He said there were multiple challenges faced by small and medium sized enterprises.

“These challenges have grown in magnitude during the global pandemic,” he said.

“While the pandemic has affected businesses and people across the board, the remote islands and maritime islands have been affected adversely.

“Our partnership with Sotutu Farm is buying pure, raw honey and transporting this honey from Bua, Vanua Levu.

“These honey arrive in our factory where our quality control team runs lab assessments and proceeds to further processing stages.

“After the filtration processes, the pure honey is bottled in retailed sized packages.” Sotutu Agricultural Development Proprietary Ltd marketing manager Mavis Toganivalu-Clerke said they wanted to develop Bua as a centre for excellence in beekeeping and honey production.

“Today’s launch marks the next truly exciting milestone for the Sotutu Agricultural Development Proprietary Ltd,” she said.

“To enter into a relationship with such an esteemed and outstanding company that has such a quality a reputation.”
