Most government shipping franchise runs to maritime islands have been covered in the past weeks.

The Ministry of Transport in its vessel schedule for the month of May noted that most maritime routes would be covered by inter-island vessels and cargo only would be delivered to these islands.

Strict procedures were also placed for all vessel operators and vehicle drivers who delivered cargo to these maritime islands.

The MV Liahona I covered Gau, Nairai and Batiki in the Lomaiviti group on May 7 while the MV Uluinabukelevu transported cargo to Kadavu on May 15.

The second franchise cargo run to Kadavu was by the MV Liahona I on May 22 while the MV Brianna, MV Lomaiviti Princess VII and the MV Princess Moana covered islands in the northern, lower and upper southern Lau in its franchise runs.

Rotuma was covered by the MV Lomaiviti Princess VII earlier this week while the MV Bai ni Takali covered the Yasawa group and north east Vanua Levu.

The MV Iloilovatu was also expected to cater for cargo runs for Beqa, Yanuca and Vatulele.

The Transport Ministry also emphasised to all vessel operators the need to adhere to all health and hygiene protocols which included the installation of the careFIJI mobile application and keeping the device Bluetooth turned on.
