Marist White aims to defend title

DEFENDING champions in the men’s category, Marist White hockey team, continued their successful title defense at the Marist Hockey Eastgate Memorial Tourney by securing a 2-0 victory against Ventures in their third pool match yesterday.

The tournament, held at the National Hockey Centre in Suva, saw a total of 14 teams competing, with 10 men’s teams and four women’s teams vying for the top honors.

Team captain, Ethan Wise, expressed his satisfaction with their performance, highlighting their previous success in the tournament and their determination to defend their title this year.

“Like to thank the boys, for giving their all to get us our third win, we have been preparing for this tournament for a long time and, we can see so far the boys have done well,” said Wise.

He adds the team’s dominant display in their matches against Levuka and Stingers II, with convincing wins of 7-0 and 10-0 respectively, demonstrated their strong form and determination.

Wise acknowledged the pressure of defending the title but credited his team for their effort and dedication on the field.

“We are taking one game at a time, it’s got easy to defend the title we have a lot of pressure on our back, but I like to thank the boys for giving their all on the court.

The captain praised the resilience of the Venture team, commending them for their competitive spirit and wishing them well in their upcoming matches.

Wise extended his gratitude to the Marist Old Boys for their support and thanked his team for their commitment and hard work in securing the victories.

Meanwhile, in other results, Naidrodro 4-0 Stingers, Stingers Nadi 3-0 Marist Lautoka, Vixen 0-3 Stingers, Marist 2-0 Ventures.

The competition concludes today, with the semi-finals and finals.
