A MARCH through Labasa Town yesterday marked the completion of weeks of intensive training by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces under Exercise Guadalcanal on Vanua Levu, according to a statement released by the RFMF.

“The event is to mark the end of Exercise Guadalcanal that was conducted in Vanua Levu,” the statement said.

Hundreds of residents lined the streets as 171 officers, deployed to training locations in Macuata and Bua, stepped in unison through the town centre.

A convoy of military trucks, used for combat and troop transport during the exercise, formed part of the display, with many spectators taking the opportunity to get a closer look.

The march began at Labasa’s Y-Corner and made its way through the town before concluding at Katonivere House, home to the Labasa Court.

For many in the crowd, the event was more than a ceremonial conclusion, it was a rare chance to engage with members of the military and appreciate their presence in the Northern Division.
