The Criminal Investigations Department’s Cybercrime Division has taken a 34-year-old man in for questioning after he allegedly circulated Viber messages pretending to be the Commissioner of Police and soliciting money.
The suspect was arrested in Wainibuku and is currently in custody at the Nakasi Police Station.
According to police, the individual is accused of using mobile numbers 8373541 and 8369719 to impersonate Commissioner Rusiate Tuidravu in an attempt to defraud recipients.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have received such messages to contact the investigating team directly on 9905 226.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
