THE late Archbishop Emeritus Petero Mataca’s elder sister Sister Akeneta Nake yesterday talked about the colourful life of the late Archbishop as if he was still alive in Lami where the reguregu was held.
Sister Nake, who was among many who presented their reguregu, said the late Archbishop was a man who cared for everyone, whether they were Catholic or not.
She said he was also a man of great integrity.
Sister Nake could not hold back tears as she described the life her younger brother lived in Cawaci as a young boy growing up.
She said they had lived separate lives after they had taken up their roles with the Catholic Church and the church had played an important role in their family lives.
“The late Archbishop was the sixth out of the eight children in the family and he was a man who strongly believed in helping people in need,” Sister Nake said.
“As a sister, I always respected him and even when he became the Archbishop, I respected him even more because he held the highest position in the country for the Catholic Church and a lot of people looked up to him.
“We spent a lot of time together while growing up and something that held us strongly together was our faith.”
She said the late Archbishop treated everyone the same and did not care about ethnicity, religion or gender.
“I always remembered him in my prayers because we had spent a lot of time apart due to our roles within the church.”
