The Ba Magistrates Court has remanded a Rakiraki man in custody for allegedly setting his house on fire on December 19.
Evinesh Swamy, 31, is alleged to have committed the offence at Korotale, Rakiraki.
He was also charged with one count of criminal intimidation.
Mr Swamy will be produced in the High Court in Lautoka on December 30.
After setting his house on fire on December 19, Mr Swamy had gone into hiding.
“We had given that piece of land to him, who we called brother, for him to build a house and stay there,” said landowner James Raju.
“He was staying in the house with his wife at the time of the incident.
“All we know that on the day the house caught fire, our brother went missing and police were looking for him.”
