A 30-year-old digger operator from Nawai, Nadi has died following a late-night incident along the Queens Road yesterday.
Fiji Police Force spokesperson Wame Boutolu confirmed that the incident occurred at around 11.15pm, when a 55-year-old driver from Waituri, Nausori, who was travelling towards Nadi Airport, reportedly struck the victim after he suddenly jumped onto the moving vehicle.
The man was rushed to the Nadi Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.
Police later discovered the victim’s partner in a nearby drain just a few metres from the crash site. She was also taken to Nadi Hospital and subsequently transferred to the Lautoka Hospital due to her critical condition.
The deceased’s body is now at the Nadi Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
