A man accused of murdering his pregnant de-facto partner last year told the High Court yesterday he did not tell police officers of not regretting his alleged offence.
Daniel Francis Prasad, 47, is standing trial at the High Court in Lautoka before Justice Aruna Aluthge on one count of murder.
Mr Prasad is alleged to have fatally stabbed his 28-year-old partner at their home in Kerebula, Nadi, on April 27, 2025.
During cross-examination yesterday, State prosecutor Joeli Nasa suggested to the accused that he had told officers at the Nadi Police Station that he did not regret what he did.
In response, Mr Prasad denied making those remarks at the police station.
Mr Nasa also told the accused that he had obtained a Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO) in October 2024, due to ongoing disputes and conflicts between himself and his partner.
In response, Mr Prasad claimed his partner had assaulted him which prompted him to file for the order.
The prosecution alleged that Mr Prasad’s son had witnessed his father killing his partner with a cane knife.
Defence lawyer Edwin Wainiqolo asked his client if he loved the victim.
Mr Prasad replied saying he loved his partner as she was a caring person and loved his three children.
The matter has been adjourned to August 19 for closing submissions.
