A 33-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his 22-year-old wife after allegedly beating her to death with a broom handle, according to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in its October 2025 Serious Crime (Non-Sexual Violence Offences) report.
The ODPP said the accused “allegedly beat his wife continuously with a broom handle which resulted in her death.” The case is one of the most serious incidents recorded for the month.
In a separate incident, a 31-year-old man was charged with attempted murder, failure to comply with requirements after an accident, damaging property, and breach of bail. The man allegedly drove his vehicle directly toward the victim “with the intent to kill him,” damaging a supermarket wall and failing to stop after the crash.
Several domestic violence-related assaults were also recorded. A 43-year-old man allegedly struck his 46-year-old wife on the head with a torch, while a 41-year-old man and a 52-year-old man were charged in separate cases for allegedly attacking their de facto and former partners.
Two men, aged 62 and 38, were jointly charged for allegedly assaulting a 38-year-old man with a cane knife, and two others — aged 43 and 30 — were charged with assault causing actual bodily harm to young girls aged 8 and 11 respectively.
