An 86-year-old has denied sexually violating his 15-year-old granddaughter with a walking stick on an unknown date in April and December 2024.
The elderly man, charged with two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar in the High Court in Suva recently.
The State did not object to bail on the basis that the victim had relocated, and it was also confirmed that there had been no reports of interference by the accused. Justice Goundar subsequently released the man on bail, with two sureties required to sign bail bonds of $1000 each.
In addition to the standard bail conditions, the High Court also imposed an interim domestic violence restraining order.
The matter has been adjourned to May 18.
