A forty-year-old general manager charged in relation to the alleged importation of cocaine from Brazil has been granted an extension of bail.

Shonal Sharma, of Tamavua, Suva, appeared before Magistrate Vinaina Diroiroi at the Magistrate’s Court in Suva yesterday, where the matter was adjourned to March 3 for mention.

Mr Sharma is charged with one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs following the interception of a suspicious shipment addressed to his company.

Police allege the consignment arrived in Fiji on October 25 and was declared as a “smoke machine”. The package was flagged during inspection after a drug detector dog indicated the presence of narcotics.

Upon examination, officers allegedly found a device labelled as a smoke machine containing a motherboard concealed within a black cover. Further inspection revealed a white powdered substance hidden inside.

Preliminary tests confirmed the substance to be cocaine, weighing about 640 grams.

Police conducted a controlled delivery before intercepting a vehicle at the company’s car park on October 30, 2025, where Mr Sharma was arrested.
