FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali is prepared to lead to the Commission.

In a statement, FICAC confirmed Ms Malimali had reported to work this morning following yesterday’s events where she was questioned by investigators.

“Ms Malimali, a highly experienced criminal lawyer was appointed by His Excellency the President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere on the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission and in consultation with the Office of the Attorney-General,” the FICAC statement said.

“Ms Malimali’s appointment came into effect on September 5, 2024, and is for a period of three (3) years.

“Ms Malimali is the first female Commissioner to take up the post after the position was left vacant upon the resignation of its former Commissioner Rashmi Aslam back in September 2023.”

The former Electoral Commission chair Barbara Malimali also addressed her arrest yesterday while reporting to work.

“Malimali stated that she would not let the events of yesterday deter her from performing her duties as prescribed under the law.”
