INDIAN President Droupadi Murmu says traditional values must be maintained because they are one’s identity.
Speaking to those who gathered for the traditional welcoming ceremony in Suva yesterday, Ms Murmu said as societies adopt modern ways of living, they must not give up tradition.
“I too come from a culture that is based on tradition,” Ms Murmu said.
“I’ve seen that you have made a lot of things with plants, and you have used it to make drinks out of it.
“We must maintain these traditions in order to maintain our identities, and it is very important for us to protect them as these traditions go back centuries.”
The visit by President Murmu is her first to Fiji and signifies a milestone in strengthening the relationship between Fiji and India.
