With less experience and aiming for exposure, Magodro Secondary School from Ba is excited to participate in their first Vodafone Fiji Secondary School Basketball Championship.
This year, a total of 25 schools are taking part in the competition, with the first day of games commencing yesterday.
Coach Isikeli Natanu expressed his excitement for the school’s involvement in the basketball competition, emphasising that the main focus is on providing exposure for the students.
“Most of our players this is the first time playing the sport, we also like to thank the officials from Basketball Fiji for coming and teaching us, especially the basic rules and regulations of the game,” said Natanu.
He added most of the players on the team are accustomed to playing rugby, so transitioning to basketball presents a challenge.
“We have a rugby background for our boys, and getting to play another different sport is a great opportunity, and a great challenge.
“Competing against champion schools from Suva provides a valuable learning experience for our team, and we will approach the competition with a positive and open mindset.”
Natanu extended his gratitude to Basketball Fiji, particularly Matayasi Taito, for their support in introducing the sport to the school.
Being part of this year’s championship is a significant opportunity for Magodro Secondary School, and they are determined to showcase their best performance.
Meanwhile, the venues for today’s U15 grades will continue at Vodafone Arena Hall A.
The U17 grade (boys and girls) will be at Yat Sen Hall, and both U19 grades will compete at FMF Gymnasium.
