IT has been an impressive season for the Macuata women’s rugby team, having reached the final of the Royal Tea Ranadi Cup competition at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Saturday.
Unfortunately, they were defeated by Ba 47-30 in an intense final match.
According to Macuata head coach Motu Lalagavesi, this season has been a journey of ups and downs for the team.
Despite facing challenges throughout the competition, she commends the girls for their unwavering determination that led them to the final of the Ranadi competition.
Lalagavesi acknowledges the competitive level of play displayed by Ba and recognises the areas where his team fell short during the final.
“For us this was a learning curve for the team, Ba really gave us a good game, we lacked few areas in the match, but we are thankful for the girls for giving their 100 percent in the competition this year,” Lalagavesi said.
Recognising the limitations of proper training facilities back home, he emphasised the need to enhance training methods and incorporate gym work to strengthen the team for future competitions.
She adds despite the defeat in the final, the team has secured a spot in the prestigious Marama competition next year.
“It is a proud moment for the team, as we have also qualified to be part of the Marama competition next year.
“It is a big achievement for the girls, we know it won’t be an easy competition, we need to be fit and ready for it.”
Lalagavesi thanked all the fans and supporters for being there from day one, and to the management for keeping the team together throughout the 2025 season.
