Update: 10:35AM A LAND Transport Authority customer service officer and eight other individuals appeared at the Nasinu Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon facing fraud charges relating to getting drivers’ licenses without following proper procedures.
William Pawa Tuiono, the LTA officer who is charged with six counts of unauthorised modification of data, two counts of abuse of office and one count of bribery, appeared before Magistrates Sufia Hamza.
The other accused persons namely Maciu Vakatawa, Mohammed Zakariya Khan, Jeet Singh, Sevuloni Digitakimata, Ratu Sekove Uluimira, Prem Wati, Mul Deo and Avinesh Shashi have all been charged with one count of dishonesty – obtaining a gain.
All the
accused persons are being charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against
Corruption (FICAC).
The alleged offences occurred on April 27 this year at the LTA office in Nasinu.
Some of the accused persons have been released on strict bail conditions, including Tuiono, while others have to present suitable sureties today to get bail.
The matter has been adjourned to January 9 next year for a plea.
