Reserve Bank of Fiji governor Ariff Ali was reappointed to the position for a second five-year term on September 11 last year.
According to the bank’s 2022-2023 annual report tabled in Parliament recently, a perusal of press statements released by the RBF last September revealed there was no public announcement by the bank or the previous government regarding Mr Ali’s reappointment.
The governor of the Reserve Bank is appointed by the President on the advice of the Constitutional Offices Commission, following consultation with the minister responsible for finance.
“The governor serves as the bank’s chief executive officer and is responsible to the board of directors for the management of the bank and the execution of its policies,” states the RBF report.
“Mr Ariff Ali was initially appointed as the governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji on 11 September, 2017, for a term of five years.
“He has been reappointed for another five years with effect from 11 September 2022.”
Mr Ali served as deputy governor since May 27, 2014 and acted as governor from May 28, 2017 until he was appointed as governor.
