Tropical Disturbance TD08F is currently located near Tonga and has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, according to the latest weather analysis.
The system is producing maximum sustained surface winds of around 45 to 50 kilometres per hour (23 to 28 knots), with minimum sea-level pressure estimated at about 1001 hectopascals.
Recent satellite imagery shows the system’s low-level circulation centre fully exposed and moving quickly southward, away from its main area of convection.
Forecast models, including global deterministic and ensemble guidance, are in strong agreement that the system will continue tracking southward and is expected to gradually weaken over the next 24 hours.
Weather authorities continue to monitor the system but say it poses a low risk of further development as it moves away from the tropics.
