A FAMILY in Lovu, Lautoka is still reeling from shock after losing a loved one in a road accident on Wednesday.
Nain Singh, 57, was believed to have been crossing the road when he was hit by a vehicle driven by a woman in her 20s.
Mr Singh was employed at West Quality Pest and Cleaning Services.
According to director Narayan Reddy, his employee of three months, had left work early that day to collect money sent by his eldest son residing in Sydney.
Yesterday, the deceased’s eldest son flew into the country from Australia after hearing the news.
Ashneel Singh said his father’s death was a tragedy that he still could not come to terms with.
“I was at work when I received the call from my sister saying dad was in hospital so I urged her to go to him,” the 29-year-old said.
Mr Singh (Ashneel) said his father was a very hardworking and devoted man.
According to Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro, the victim was alleged to have suddenly crossed the road when he was hit by the vehicle.
“The victim was rushed to the Lautoka Hospital and was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit where he later passed away after 6pm,” she said.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted in the coming days to determine the cause of death.
Investigations are continuing.
The present road death toll stands at five compared with one for the same period last year.
