TRUTH, justice, righteousness, honesty and integrity are eternal, inspiration and unifying principles of Lord Ram that teaches us to always put national interest above anything else, says Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad.
As Hindus in Fiji and around the world celebrated the birth of Lord Ram yesterday, Prof Prasad, while wishing Hindus a blessed and inspirational Ram Naumi, said the road to achieving success for the betterment and common good of the people was an invaluable lesson that formed the basis of Lord Ram’s life.
He said our forefathers, who were brought to Fiji as indentured labourers or the Girmitiya, religiously observed Ram Naumi and drew inspiration and courage from Lord Ram’s life to overcome the brutal challenges confronting them.
He said Lord Ram had shown that irrespective of the perilous nature of the journey, success could only be achieved through honesty, dedication, hard work and being committed at all times towards the greater good of each and everyone.
“The observance of Ram Naumi is full of recitals of the Holy Ramayan,” Prof Prasad said.
“The teachings should be part of our daily lives.
“It’s about following the path of truth, justice, righteousness, honesty, integrity and humility”.
“It teaches us never to deviate from this path no matter what lies ahead.”
Prof Prasad said Lord Ram’s birth, life, and struggles reminded us to be principled, kind, and compassionate at all times.
“Lord Ram sacrificed his own interest for the greater good of humanity.
“Ultimately he prevailed because he never deviated from his principles and that is why his virtues are eternal.”
