Look Back | Four new entrants for Hibiscus ‘67

The 1967 Miss Hibiscus contest proved to be exceptionally good after the contest committee announced in The Fiji Times that it was impressed with the number of entrants received.

According to this newspaper, a press release gave the names of four out of eight contestants who were taking part in the pageant that year.

The committee had anticipated receiving 18 entrants, The Fiji Times noted.

The latest four were Miss Clara Hoong, Miss Linda Hadden, Miss Annette Lepper and Miss Ann Ah Jack.

Miss Clara Hoong, 19 was a stenographer whose hobbies included reading, dress making, playing indoor basketball, badminton and going to the movies. Her sponsor was Bridgestone Tyres in association with Caines Jannif Limited.

Secretary/Stenographer, Miss Linda Hadden, 20, was sponsored by Burns Philp (South Sea) Company Limited. She listed her main interests as horse riding, swimming, dancing and reading.

The Fiji Hotel Association sponsored 21-year-old Miss Annette Lepper who was a receptionist/clerk and listed swimming, water-skiing, reading and cooking as her chief hobbies.

Miss Ann Ah Jack, 19, was a cashier whose sponsor was Morris Hedstrom Limited. She said her chief hobbies were basketball, dancing, gardening, meeting people, and record collecting.

The full itinerary for the contestants were drawn up before the festival commenced on September 7 and and ended on October 8, 1967
