After being named in the 23-member team to face Japan in the final of the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup final on Saturday, 7s utility player Ponipate Loganimasi made Osea Kolinisau a proud coach.
Kolinisau expressed his happiness with Loganimasi’s performance, stating, “Au marau ni raica nona qito” (I’m happy to see him play.)
Loganimasi, a silver medallist from the Paris Olympic Games and a newcomer to 15s rugby, was a surprise addition to the FIJI Water Flying Fijians after Selesitino Ravutaumada’s injury in the tournament’s first round.
He made a significant impact by scoring two tries in the final, stepping in for Ilaisa Droasese for about 20 minutes.
Kolinisau shared his vision for the 7s players, saying, “Ka ga au vinakata veiratou na cauravou o’ya me toso na nodratou qito” (All I want for the boys is that they progress in the sport).
He emphasised that he wouldn’t mind if Loganimasi chose to join any 15s club, stating he would only feel proud, adding: “There will be many Loganimasis.”
