Farmer Ravnesh Chand of Bilalevu, Sigatoka says he lost $5000 worth of tobacco grown on his farm during the two weeks lockdown in his area.
“I was one of the many farmers under home isolation and almost everything on my farm has gone bad,” he said.
Mr Chand said his okra plantation had also ripened as he could not harvest it on time.
“Now I have to re-plough and start planting crops again and it will take some time to establish a good production again.”
He said they were not prepared for the sudden lockdown, nor had they stocked up on their food supplies.
“I am the sole breadwinner of my family and being primary contacts of a positive case, we were instructed to be under home.
