Concerns have been raised regarding the locking of washrooms in cafeterias and eateries in Labasa Town.
Labasa Town Council chief executive officer Faiz Ali said cafeterias were not supposed to lock their washrooms or deny access to the public.
“We will engage our health inspectors to look at the concern raised,” he said.
Mr Ali said they would engage the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) and the Consumer Council of Fiji to address the issue.
“It is sad that the public have been denied access to washrooms.” To tackle the problem in the long term, he said plans for constructing a new washroom for Labasa were underway.
“We have had a meeting weeks ago for plans to construct a new washroom for Labasa.”
He said the proposed location was on the west side of the town.
“This is pending on the availability of suitable land.
“If not, it will be built at the carrier stand beside Shop N Save.”
He said this would alleviate concerns and provide a convenient and clean toilet facilities for the residents of Labasa Town.
