Digicel Fiji has introduced a new television streaming service, the DTV app, allowing users access to an extensive lineup of international and local channels with a strong emphasis on live sports.
Digicel and Sky Pacific launched the service through an expanded TV broadcast licence granted by the Fijian Government.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications Manoa Kamikamica said, ” The removal of the draconian MIDA decree has facilitated opportunities for all Mobile service providers to provide value added service to the people of Fiji”.
“I congratulate Digicel on the new service offerings made possible through the variation of licences,” Mr Kamikamica said.
“We have seen a global shift towards online and on-demand streaming as more and more people have access to smart handheld devices.
“We are looking forward to a positive impact of your services on the community, especially the ardent sports fans.”
The app provides users access to sports programs, movies, news and educational content directly from an eligible smartphone with an active Digicel mobile data plan.
The app also provides a platform for local content and advertising on the Sky Pacific and DTV app. Digicel Fiji CEO Farid Mohammed said, “We are thrilled to expand our entertainment offerings for our valued customers”.
“This will allow us to deliver greater choice and flexibility to our customers while bolstering support for our local content industry and advertisers. We take pride in providing our customers with world-class entertainment on the go.”
Digicel customers will receive a complimentary basic plan, with a choice to upgrade to standard (12 channels) or premium (23 channels) plans.
The service can be accessed through the ‘DTV’ app from the Android Play Store or the ‘Digicel TV’ app from the Apple app Store.
To mark the occassion, Digicel is offering a three-day premium trial pass exclusively for those who download the DTV app today.
