Golden Glove award recipient Simione Tamanisau of Extra Supermarket Labasa FC gave credit to God after his side won the 2025 BiC Fiji FACT last night.
“First of all, I’d like to give credit back to God for being here in the team, for the inspiration and strength,” Tamanisau acknowledged.
The Babasiga Lions won 4-2 (one-all at full-time and 3-1 during a penalty shootout) over Ajay Trading Rewa FC to clinch the coveted title.
The seasoned goalkeeper’s agility and grip proved timely throughout the match, except for a goal scored by Rewa’s Iosefo Verevou in the latter stages of the second half.
Reflecting on the game, he credited the Rodicks Singh coached Rewa side for the formidable level of play they showed in the game.
“They (Rewa) gave us a good run for our money, but at the end of the day, I’d like to say hats off to the boys for sticking to the game plan,” he recalled.
“We saw that in the last match and at the end, I’d like to give credit to the boys for everything.”
The 43-year-old policeman also acknowledged the dominant show of support by the Labasa fans, sweeping the grandstand and embankment areas of the HFC Bank Stadium in a sea of red and cheered their hearts out for the team with every plot twist that unfolded on the field.
Now as they return to the Babasiga Town in Vanua Levu as champions, he thanked the players for their hard work in the Fiji FACT finale thriller.
“It’s just a sweet victory,” he said.
“For the boys to return home, those will travel and for our families to go home. We’d like to give credit to them, they’ve been backing the team all throughout.”
He extended a word of thanks to sponsors Extra Supermarket and those who worked behind the scenes to help the Lions roar with glory.
Meanwhile, this is Labasa won the FACT title after 10 years, the last win being in 2015.
