FJ910 from Sydney has been diverted to Apia.

Fiji Airways has confirmed that a failure of runway lighting at Nadi International Airport has led to the temporary closure of the airport to both arriving and departing flights, causing widespread disruption to air services.

In a statement, the national carrier said the outage forced several international and domestic flights to divert to alternate airports, including Nausori and Apia.

The disruption has also resulted in the cancellation of tonight’s FJ915 service from Nadi to Sydney.

Fiji Airways advised significant delays and disruptions are expected to continue throughout the evening and overnight.

“Safety remains our top priority, and these diversions are required under aviation safety standards. These events are completely outside of Fiji Airways’ control,” the airline said.

The airline added it is working closely with Fiji Airports Limited, the operator of Nadi International Airport, as well as other airport authorities, to manage the situation.

Affected passengers are being contacted directly with updates and assistance, and Fiji Airways has thanked customers for their patience and understanding during the disruption.
