Lifters win more medals in New Caledonia

FIJI won a few more medals on day two and day three competition at the Oceania Weightlifting Championships in New Caledonia on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Tuesday, Julia Timi won a gold medal in the youth 63kg event and a bronze in the same weight category in the senior competition.

Eileen Cikamatana, 15,won silver in the youth 63kg event in her first international competition.

Yesterday, Maria Moana won a bronze in the +69 kg women category while Sakiusa Sokotukivei won a gold in the 77 kg men’s event.

Competition was still underway when this edition went to press.

Weightlifting Fiji secretary Chris Yee said Fiji’s young lifters performed really well even though some were competing internationally for the first time.

“Maria, 13, had been competing since she was 10 years old and this is her first international competition and her gold medal win speaks volumes of her capabilities.
