WEIGHTLIFTING Fiji scooped four awards at the 2015 Fiji Sports Awards held at the Vodafone Arena on Friday.
Along with winning the Sports Organisation of the Year award, Weightlifting Fiji’s Josefa Vueti was named 2015 Coach of the Year, Della Shaw the 2015 Sports Technical Official of the Year and Eileen Cikamatana named 2015 Young Female Athlete of the Year.
Vueti was surprised by the feat.
“It is a surprise win for me, especially after what happened during Cyclone Winston. Our HPU was badly damaged and this is a boost to me, especially in preparing the team to the Oceania Championship next month,” he said.
He said the awards they won were a positive reflection on the work they did in developing the sport.
“I am happy and I believe all the nominees were winners. The awards showed the potential that our athletes have and especially our administration. My win is for the people of Ovalau, especially after the tragedy of Winston and I think it will put a smile back on the faces of the people back home,” he said.
