Lewakita overcomes barriers to graduate

As graduates lined up to receive their certificates at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva yesterday, one walked proudly with her father as her guide.

Naomi Lewakita, 21, of Nayavuira Village in Nakorotubu, Ra, is visually impaired and was one of the 374 women who was part of the Fiji National University’s graduation ceremony.

Graduating with a Certificate III in Contact Centre Operations.

“I was studying a Diploma in Special Learning and Inclusive Ed in 2024, but I had an interest in the area of computing and technology.”

Walking up to receive her certificate, Ms Lewakita was filled with emotion, being reminded of the struggles she encountered.

Her accomplishment was witnessed by her parents and grandmother, who travelled all the way from Nakorotubu, Ra.

She paid tribute to the Disability Contact Centre for its endless support to people living with disabilities and helping them achieve goals such as hers.
