THE Levuka Public School athletics team has officially arrived in Suva, gearing up for a strong showing at this year’s Coca Cola Games.
The team had their first run on the tracks yesterday afternoon after arriving on Monday evening, marking the start of their competition campaign.
Assistant school principal Vilisoni Rigamoto said the school was bringing one of its largest athletics contingents yet, with 17 athletes — 11 boys and six girls — ready to compete.
Among them are returning medallists from last year’s games who are expected to perform strongly.
“Last year, we secured three medals including a silver in sub-junior girls javelin and bronzes in senior boys 3000m and sub-junior girls shot put. This year, our goal is to improve on that and bring home gold medals,” Rigamoto explained.
The team has been training hard, even during the Easter holidays and cyclone period when schools were closed.
“Our athletes have been preparing well thanks to the dedication of our coaches, managers, and teachers. They have stayed committed to their training throughout the year,” he added.
Levuka Public School is optimistic about increasing its medal tally and showcasing the talent and hard work of its athletes at the prestigious event.
