Cinema rules
Tai Smith raises a fairly valid query about why patrons cannot occupy empty seats in the cinema (FT 10/11). I cannot see any concrete reason why movie goers are disallowed free sitting if the cinema is not filled to its maximum capacity. Alternatively, Tai Smith can consider subscribing to an online movie streaming platform such as Netflix where she will be able to enjoy her favourite films in any sitting position within the comfort of her home. With overpriced tickets, drinks and confectioneries, Div Damodar’s “choc top and pop corn” cinema experience has become a costly affair these days. Nishant Singh, Lautoka
Police vehicles
THE large number of police vehicles that I spotted at the annual event at Laucala at the weekend, I guess the police’s quick response team would be off, no match, if there was a bank heist nearby. While it was rare to see vehicles registered to the RFMF at Laucala, I can only hope there will be no excuses in the future from the men in blue when members of the public call for immediate assistance from anywhere, anytime. Perhaps at future sports event, ranking officers should find their own way to Laucala. Anyway, congratulations Fiji Police Force. AREKI DAWAI, Suva
Nothing has changed
I believe in keeping with tradition, the new Fiji Rugby Union management is full of one ethnic group at the deliberate exclusion of “others”. I have been suggesting that with the long overdue revamp of the FRU, some new blood and new beginning would be implemented, both at management and at player level. But my hopes have been dashed unsurprisingly, as nothing will ever change in the FRU. The players will continue to be exclusively from one ethnic group and so will management. So, what has changed? Perhaps the new management of FRU would like to kindly answer. Jan Nissar, Sydney, Australia
Climate change
I note that Professor Biman Prasad is reported (FT6/11) as saying: “it is imperative that COP29 delivers, maintains and strengthens the actions required to keep global average temperatures below 1.5 degrees.” Would that be Fahrenheit or Centigrade? In either case it will mean we will need fewer refrigerators, but many more jackets. Paul Geraghty, USP, Suva
