Listen to this article:

7s rugby coverage PITA SOROAQALI TAVUA CAN someone clarify why there isn’t live coverage of all games during the series but only Fiji games? Is it because of lack of sponsors or financial burden to the TV station?

Child wellbeing TAHIR ALI HAMILTON, NEW ZEALAND INDH Director for humanity Sangita Kumar’s news release for construction of a child wellbeing centre (FT 22/1) will greatly help children who struggle with life and desperately live in the streets to the mercy of donors and other organisations. This will be a milestone achievement as a symbol of hope for children. Let’s hope the government of the day will urgently deal with such cases with priority, as children are the most valuable asset for the country. God bless Fiji.

Drug submarine DINESH KUMAR BA THE front-page headline in Saturday’s edition of The Fiji Times, “Lau not spared” (FT, 07/02), was deeply distressing. The article reported that a suspected drug submarine was sighted near Kabara, a revelation that is both alarming and heart breaking. I strongly urge the Godfearing people of Kabara to cooperate fully with the police by providing any information they may have, so that those involved in this criminal network can be brought to justice. Lau, and Kabara in particular, holds a special place in my heart, as I once lived and served among its people. It is a place of natural beauty, strong values, and close-knit communities, and it should never be tainted by the scourge of illicit drugs. It is imperative that leaders and all Lauans stand united in this fight against drugs, for the sake of their children and generations yet to come. If vigilance, unity, and courage prevail today, Kabara can remain the paradise it has always been unspoilt, resilient, and free from this destructive poison.

That judgment RAJEND NAIDU SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA WRITING on the subject of Justice Dane Tuiqereqere’s ruling that PM Rabuka did not have the constitutional authority to advice the President to remove Barbara Malimali from the position of FI- CAC commissioner, prominent Suva lawyer Richard Naidu (FT 7/2) tells us that “for a number of professional reasons I have an interest in saying that the judge was right”. That could very well be the case. But I would have been happier if the ruling was upheld in an appeal. For reasons best known to Mr Rabuka there will be no appeal even though he had made a public announcement to appeal the ruling. But we all know Mr Rabuka is a legend when it comes to saying one thing and doing the opposite.

Flip flopper JAN NISSAR SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA  I DID say that the PM will pull another rabbit out of the hat. He has once again and I have always maintained that he has been a magician all along. How else has he been able to be around for 40 years and still going strong? It appears that it helps if one is a flip/flopper. Fijians love a flip/flopper. It must be a cultural and traditional thing, I suspect.

Moral compass PAUL SEFORANA BA INTERESTING to read of “dramas” unfolding before us. Many comments raised for and against. I wish to remind us of God’s principle of sowing and reaping. Whatever is unfolding before us, is of our own doing, don’t shift the blame. Everything will be exposed on the roof-top. God bless Fiji.

Walking aid WISE MUAVONO BALAWA, LAUTOKA THE common denominator of the Prime Minister and the President is they both need the aid of a cane to walk. Maybe it’s time to call it a day, aye! Isa!

Perfect world A. SHARIFF SHAH SAVUSAVU  I HAVE been in Suva for the past three days. Main motor ways right from Nausori Airport and as far as Navua are perfect. With very less or no potholes at all. The roads look nice and marked with signage and well lit. The footpath looks solid. Grass in the road reserves well trimmed and rubbish all collected. Sometimes I wonder if Fiji is only made up of Suva and Nadi or the whole of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu with islands like Taveuni and Ovalau too. I wonder what materials and workmanship were used in these two locations. All I hear is rain, flooding and climate change as the root cause of our road conditions. I am sure Suva gets more rain. Nadi gets flooded. Climate change does affect these two locations. The million dollar question here is, is it the materials used, skilled labour or simply the road contractors just don’t have it and don’t know what to do with their flashy machines? Or can those contractors who did these two above roads please come  to the above locations and do the work. Worst case scenario, bring with you all material and labour as you come. This is like bread and butter issue and life time investment of a few and they are fighting tooth and nail to hang on to it. Never to let it go. This drama has no end. There is no end to our road nightmare. Can FRA, LTA and police chief please advise the nation on how to drive safely on our unsafe roads. If our sealed roads are beyond repair, please gravel all the tarsealed roads. End of all nightmares. No brainer!

Drua hammers Skipper Select XV RAJNESH ISHWAR LINGAM NADAWA, NASINU THE Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s 78-12 hammering of the Skipper Select XV showed the gap that exists between the professional set up and a team made up of the best local players who played in the Skipper Cup. The Drua showed that they will be a force to reckon with when they face the Moana Pasifika at our Fortress next Saturday. The ‘Battle of Fiji’ attracted a huge, passionate crowd, and fans were entertained to an evening of exciting and entertaining rugby. The Drua showed their supremacy and conquered the locals, claiming the Sun Bell Trophy. The standout performers from our domestic provincial competition were put to the sword but the battle underlined the deep connection between the professional franchise and Fiji’s provincial rugby heartland. The Drua’s exposure at Super Rugby level, fitness and ability to carry out the basic gave them the edge. Our locals found the heat a little to hot to handle and lack of game time hindered their performance. All the best to the Drua as they prepare to face the Moana. The pain of missing the playoffs should motivate the Drua to work harder.
