THE national futsal side has learnt and picked up a few lessons in the OFC Futsal Nations Cup tour in Noumea, New Caledonia.

The side suffered a 11-1 thrashing in their first pool match against Tahiti.

They played their second match against Tonga and managed to come out successful 9-2.

Team coach Mira Sahib said the team had learnt a few lessons from their first outing which they would take back with them.

“Going into our last pool match, the players have realised that defending really well is very important especially in a one versus one situation, and transitioning to defend comparing to our first game, we were rather slow,” said Sahib.

“We needed to be faster and stand our ground and the most important thing we are looking at is to never let them score,” he added.

Sahib said the team would need to get back to the drawing board and take them positives forward in the next Futsal tournament.

“Most players are new to futsal and we have 11 players who can carry on in the team for the next four years, so it is important that we take the positives from this tournament and work really hard for the next four years as well as set realistic targets for futsal in the country,” he said.

“It was a totally new environment for the players and going from football to futsal is never easy but there was lots of positives from the first game which we carried on into our second game,” Sahid added.
