REMEMBERING your humble beginnings are always important no matter how far one gets ahead in life.
Flying Fijian and Racing 92 lock Leone Nakarawa says that was one of the main reasons he always visits his former teammates at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) whenever he is in the country.
The 6’7″ towering lock has made it a priority for him to visit his comrades and give them advice and encouraging them to keep working hard.
“Every time I come to Fiji I go to the army camp because that is where I started playing rugby. And that is where I developed my skills. The most important thing is that is where I learned self-discipline and imposing those discipline wherever I go,” Nakarawa said.
He said he could never forget where he learned a lot of things that made him the man he is today.
Nakarawa initially joined the army as a volleyball player back in 2012, but was identified and represented the Army Red team in the Nasinu rugby competition.
Later he was pulled to the Army Green in the Suva’s Escott Shield club competition where he made the cut in to the capital city’s provincial side.
“It was there too where I developed the “winning mentality” and playing to win.
Heading in to the Scotland’s game Nakarawa said having his fellow comrades Kalivati Tawake, Manasa Saulo and John Stewart playing by his side was a real boost for him.
Army Chief Staff Officer co-ordination Captain Eroni Duaibe said Nakarawa was held highly among his comrades.
“Not only because of his rugby achievements but mainly because of his sociable personality and for never forgetting his brothers,” Duaibe said.
