Lelean Memorial School’s Kelevi Vuase is this year’s Triple N Zone sprint king after he took home the gold in the blue ribbon 100m final at the HFC Bank Stadium yesterday.
The 19-year-old from Kadavu, who set a time of 11.31 in the 100m, is no stranger to the games. He has been taking part in the zone meet for four years.
Vuase also won the 200m final in a time of 23.4 seconds. He said he has been training hard for almost a year with one goal in mind.
Vuase said his biggest motivator was Pacific sprint king Banuve Tabakaucoro and he was training hard to be like him. He hoped to beat Tabakaucoro’s record.
Lelean won the Triple N Zone boys’ division after scooping 16 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze.
Adi Cakobau School took out the girl’s division with 35 gold, 22 silver and 15 bronze.
Last year’s boys champion Nakasi High School secured second place with 13 gold, nine silver and eight bronze, followed by Wainimala Secondary School with four gold, two silver and two bronze.
The Coca-Cola Games will be held on April 27-29 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
