Cecil Leger, a 31-year-old, had pursued field hockey for six years, starting with teams like Stingers and Rockefellers.
His entry into the sport was spurred by Marcus Hicks into Rockerfellas, setting him on a path in hockey and now, to represent Fiji at the 2023 Pacific Games.
For Leger, this achievement wasn’t just personal; it echoed his family legacy, following in the footsteps of his father, Patrick Leger, who also represented Fiji.
The inspiration Cecil drew from legendary rugby player Daniel Carter emphasised the values of discipline and unwavering work ethic.
His advice to aspiring players echoed the importance of consistency, setting clear goals, and believing in boundless possibilities. Originally from Labasa in the North of Fiji, Leger’s journey began at Holy Family Secondary School.
This was where he first stepped onto the field, playing alongside Denzel Mock, who is also in the Pacific Games squad, a shared experience that became the starting point of his passion for the sport.
Amid his athletic pursuits, Cecil’s devotion to his family was evident. He holds dear the role of a father to his four-year-old son, who resides in Fiji, maintaining a connection to his roots amidst his dedication to the sport.
Cecil will make his debut at the Pacific Games.
