THE Fiji Law Society will host the 2nd Pasefika Lawyers Collective (PLC) Conference alongside its annual Convention at the Crowne Plaza Resort & Spa, Wailoaloa Beach, Nadi, from 30-31 October 2025.
The event is set to welcome approximately 300 delegates, including judges, legal practitioners, policymakers, academics, and civil society representatives from Fiji and across the Pacific under the theme ‘Embracing Change: The Future of Law in the Pacific’.
The two-day program will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and technical workshops on pressing issues such as:
- Constitutional resilience and sovereignty;
- Access to justice and legal aid innovation;
- Rule of law and political accountability;
- Artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and legal technology;
- Transnational crime and cross-border cooperation; and,
- Prospects for a unified Pacific regional court.
The Honourable Filimone Jitoko, Speaker of the Parliament of Fiji, will deliver the opening keynote. Distinguished speakers and panellists will join from Uganda, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand, Australia, and other jurisdictions.
The PLC is a collective of lawyers of Pacific heritage and affiliation, celebrating diversity in the legal profession and promoting regional collaboration. It was established in 2023, and the first PLC conference was held in Samoa that year. The Fiji Law Society has incorporated the conference into its annual convention, demonstrating the country’s ongoing commitment to regional legal development.
The event highlights the importance of Pacific legal institutions working together to address shared challenges from digital disruption to governance and access to justice, while strengthening professional ties across the region.
Set against the scenic backdrop of Wailoaloa Beach, the conference provides an ideal environment for professional exchange and informal networking. Fiji’s position as a regional legal hub is well established, with past collaborations involving the International Bar Association, Commonwealth Lawyers Association, and LAWASIA.
This year’s event is supported by key partners, including the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Pacific Justice Sector Programme (PJSP), vLex, Shop N Save Supermarket, BSP Life, Fiji Airways, R.C. Manubhai & Co. Pte Ltd, Express Signz & Print, Fiji Water, Fiji Book Drive and other regional collaborators.
