Lee starts well on tour

Denarau professional golfer Sam Lee made a bright start on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia.

Playing in his first tournament on the 2022 schedule, Lee finished in fourth place during the CKB Western Australia PGA Championship presented by TX Civil and Logistics.

Lee carded 14 under par 274. He scored rounds of 71, 66, 70 and 67 at the Kalgoorlie Golf Course.

He was placed five strokes behind winner Jay Mackenzie of New South Wales. Lee collected about $15,400.

The 31 year old will participate in two more tournaments. Fiji Professional Golfers Association treasurer Amitesh Chandra said Lee had impressed in his first tournament in Australia this year.

Chandra said Lee still had his Asian Development Tour card.

“Sam plans to travel to Thailand after playing in Australia,” he said.”

The Asian Tour is tough as there are many tournaments with good upcoming players.

“If he continues to play well then he can hit big time like Dinesh Chand who is based in Japan.”

Lee turned professional after winning the majority of the major amateur tournaments in the country in 2014.

He got a ticket on the PGA Tour of Australasia in 2015 season after a good finish at the final qualifying school tournament in Australia.
